EMBO Practical Course on the Structural Characterization of Macromolecular Complexes
Grenoble, 4–9 June 2012, co-sponsored by P-CUBE
Organisers: Elspeth Gordon (ESRF), Darren Hart (EMBL), Carlo Petosa (IBS), Guy Schoehn (UVHCI), Winfried Weissenhorn (UVHCI) (all Grenoble, France)

The EMBO Practical Course on the “Structural Characterization of Macromolecular Complexes” took place in Grenoble from June 4 to 10, 2012. Twenty students and postdocs of 18 different nationalities and from 13 different host lab countries participated in this course, which focused on the strategies and techniques used to produce, purify and characterize multi-subunit protein and protein/nucleic acid complexes for structural analysis. The course consisted of a series of 24 lectures and 12 practicals covering topics that included recombinant co-expression, library methods for protein expression, biophysical interaction assays, interaction databases, yeast two-hybrid methods, DARPin technology, mass spectrometry, small-angle scattering, NMR, X-ray crystallography, and electron microscopy. Several P-CUBE partners actively contributed to the success of this event.
Sponsorship was kindly provided by EMBO, P-CUBE and Instruct
